SELL / ADVERTISE YOUR REGISTRATION
Put your registration in front of buyers. Tell us what you’ve got, we’ll advertise it alongside our own stock, handle the enquiries and guide you through the transfer paperwork.
No cost up front — our fee is added to the asking price.

Your
plate.
Our reach.
Your plate appears in the “Number plates for sale” list alongside Reg Smart’s own stock.
The main thing
The more we know, the easier it is to check the registration and answer buyer questions quickly. Not sure about the paperwork? That’s okay — say so.
Good to know: you keep the asking price you set. Reg Smart’s fee is added on top and shown clearly to buyers.
You can also email photos of the plate, the vehicle or your V778/V750 to Contact@RegSmart.net.
Clear from the start
You tell us the price you want for the registration. We advertise it at that price plus our fee — 15% of your price, or £100, whichever is greater. So a plate you want £1,000 for is advertised at £1,150. You get your asking price; our fee is what we’re paid for advertising it, handling the enquiries and guiding the transfer.
A useful first check
Short version: a registration usually needs to be assigned to a vehicle or held on the right paperwork, and it needs to belong to you or be authorised by the person who holds it.
The registration must be currently assigned to a vehicle registered with DVLA, or already held on a retention document (V778). A V750 certificate of entitlement is the certificate you get when you buy a number that isn’t on a vehicle.
To take a number off a vehicle, the donor vehicle generally needs to be registered and taxed and, where applicable, have a valid MOT or be exempt.
The number must be in your name, or you must have permission from the registered keeper or the grantee to deal with it.
You cannot use a registration that would make a vehicle appear newer than it actually is.
Some registrations — for example Q-plates and certain Northern Ireland numbers — can’t be transferred in the usual way.
Retention documents must be valid. The standard retention lasts ten years and can be renewed.
Every case is different and DVLA rules can change. We check the specifics for you before your plate goes live — if you’re unsure, just send it over and we’ll confirm.
